I'm 6 foot 180 pounds and pretty fit. I would give myself a fair chance of killing or at least wounding a wolf badly enough to make it stop fighting me.
But I'd need to go to the hospital afterwards.

As long as the man isn't a skinny wisp or a plodding jello, he should have a fair shot of subduing your average wolf.

Well I'm going to favor a prime condition human male over a wolf if nobody minds.
a lot of people think the wolf will win due to its jaws but I respectfully disagree. if anything i think the man's grappling hands, brain, and flexibility makes him a far more versatile fighter.
it may be hard to explain over the internet but that's how i see it.

except it would be unlikely for the dog to get into such a position. A dog or wolf will not bite the man before he lands a punch or kick. Ehm, did you care to read the entire link SC posted about the prison inmate who got his @$$ owned by an 80 pound German shepherd? He kicked the dog first and it did little but anger the dog. Here it is again. www.sundayworld.com/columnists/index.php?preview=11997Lots of huge guys are really weak. That man didn't represent the top hierarchy of the human race. That said I'm not disputing the more formidable wolf can sometimes defeat an elite human fighter. Just not easily like some people think.

I am in favour of the wolf most of the time. That being said, the man shouldn't be underestimated. A strong human should be able to control a wolf or beat it hard enough to at least injure it. Humans can be underrated here.

I agree the wolf would win if it managed to land a devastating bite that breaks the human early in the fight.
If the human managed to attain a lock or a stranglehold of some sort he stands a chance IMO

Is this a joke? An average human wouldn't stand a chance against a wolf. The title just says "Human vs Gray Wolf". That's it, nothing else. We should at least make it a stronger human. I find this to be a mismatch because here are the impressive feats made by the wolf or at least some things the wolf has survived or whatever. A wolf has: 1: Killed a muskox which is able to reach 650 kg (1,400 lb). 2: Survived being kicked in the face by bison, which are capable of weighing up to 1,270 kg (2,800 lb). 3: I'm not sure about this, but I will say it anyway: Managed to kill bison single handingly (spelling??) If your average Joe tried to do anything like that, he/she would be crushed, literally and figuratively. Not to mention there is cases of cheetahs, domestic dogs and, if I remember correctly, in one case, a beaver. All of those animals I listed are weaker than a wolf. Unless this human was really strong or if this is one of these Arabian wolves, Wolf 9.5/10. A beaver killed a human? Could you post the link. And how does a wolf being kicked by a bison somehow make it immune to injury from a powerful human strike. A human strike is much more coordinated and accurate than a stiff bison kick. Muskox don't weigh anywhere close to 1400 pounds. I think read about the incident of a wolf single-handedly killing a bison. The bison was injured and it took the whole day for the wolf to make the kill.

www.theguardian.com/world/2013/may/29/beaver-kills-man-belarusBecause it's more powerful than your own hand. Read my post clearly. UP TO 650 kg. I only read it on Carnivoraforum on the Grizzly Bear vs Muskox thread, and from what I have heard, captive specimens can grow that big but yeah I doubt it grows up to that big in the wild. Do you vote human?

Just because a few wolves survived a grazing shot to the ribs doesn't change the fact that hundreds if not thousands of other wolves would be paralyzed by the same injury.
Humans have survived car collisions and falling from great heights.
By your argument, that makes us every bit as durable as wolves.
See what I mean?

The average grey wolf isn't even that large. Only around ninety to a hundred pounds or so.
Hell even I could probably take one.
