The cougar is the most impressive of all the felines but I dont think they can match the build patherines can achieve. There are actually a couple of century old accounts I know of that claim cougars defeated grizzly bears when the 2 usually fought. Whether these accounts are credible or not is up to the reader to decide. As for this topic- It's 50:50. Cougars and leopards have a huge varied weight range so it depends entirely on the status, resolve, experience, aggression, and subspecies. A large Canadian Cougar would submit an amur leopard etc. and so on. That's really the best answer to this stupid topic which is up there along with Megalodon vs livyatan, t-rex vs spino, and tiger vs lion as some of the most overblown, pointless debates of all time. Sorry I sounded bitter.

It depends on the size of the animals involved in this match. If it was largest of each species then the Cougar (male) with a top reported specimen recorded at 300 lbs would beat the largest male Leopard who weighed in at 213 Lbs. On the other hand if both animals were the same size I'd give it to the Leopard with it's huge head and larger more powerful jaws.

I believe that on average, the cougar would have a slight size advantage. At parity; two cats in a cat fight = 50-50 draw. It's not the size of the jaws, but who grabs who the quickest.

What this really comes down to is their level of ferocity. Go ahead and check out some videos of leopards fighting each other vs Cougars fighting each other. You will see that leopards are far more brutal when engaging each other. They're ready to fight to the death, locking up, biting the throat while trying to disembowel each other with their hind legs. Neither one ever seeming to back down. Cougars tend to stand on their hind legs swatting at each other until one backs down and submits. It's just two different levels of combat. I love Cougars but I give the nod to the leopard on this one. youtu.be/DCrct29xGEYyoutu.be/eSlXIY70eZgyoutu.be/PGylB6oOtgcyoutu.be/FnY9esFMkWM
