(I was inspired to create this after the Megalania vs Gaur thread)
Question for the reptile enthusiasts. What in your opinion is the largest living megaherbivore that a megalania can kill?

(I was inspired to create this after the Megalania vs Gaur thread) Question for the reptile enthusiasts. What in your opinion is the largest living megaherbivore that a megalania can kill? Well I already said thos in the other thread but in an act of predation I think it could bring down any of them, fights are an entirely different matter however.

I should have specified that this thread is about an act of predation not a face to face fight.
As for this topic, I can see a megalania bringing down a giraffe or some of the smaller rhino species.
The larger rhino species, hippos, and elephants are just too powerful.

even a pachyderm?
nah.... I am of the opinion that as prey items Africa's big 3 would be off the menu, the Asian elephant too, on the fence about the Indian Rhino. I'm not saying meggy couldn't kill each of them a certain % of the time but it would hardly choose them as regular prey items.

On second thought, I'm not so sure about the giraffe. It's just so much taller than anything the megalania has encountered and it's kicks have colossal reach.

Being so short, megalania could easily get trampled.

He asked simply if megalania could kill them, not whether or not they would a prefered prey species.

Well thats what the ambush part is for, you know to close the gap and take prey by surprise lowering there chance to effectively defend themselves.

I agree, I also believe the Indian rhino would be off the menu. The gauntlet of extant carnivores would be an equally interesting topic. Moose, giraffe, camels, bovids and the rest would all be potential prey.

out of curiosity, how much damage will a giraffe's kick do to a megalania in your opinions?
We know it can kill lions but megalania is much heavier than a lion and protected by tough scales.
