They'd attack animals. Logistically, the zombie apocalypse wouldn't work anyway, there are far more contagious diseases which have failed to wipe us out. Zombies' muscles will only remain functional for a few weeks after death in perfect conditions. In sub-zero temperatures they could freeze within an hour.
The zombies themselves are more plausible than most realize, but they could never cause an apocalypse.

Because a bite will turn you into one of them within minutes. It'll just keep spreading from there.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to take about a day. I don't believe it's possible for a virus to spread through the body this quickly; there are a crackload of body functions to prevent this, anyway. A rabies bite won't land you on the death bed in half an hour. Seeing that zombies are quite slow, and we have guns all over the place, I doubt a zombie apocalypse is going to get very far. How does it even start?

You'll never be up against 1 zombie. You'll be up against a horde- tens of thousands even millions of the undead. You just can't escape or kill them all.

But how do you get the horde in the first place? You could say that when 2 rabbits are first found and we know that they reproduce like crazy that they'll overrun us with sheer numbers, but this doesn't mean much if we kill them at sight.

If you killed the virus when its local then yes there won't be a horde.

A Zombie apocalypse simply wouldnt happen, we would put it down and quarantine it very quickly.

Problem is, doctors don't know they can't treat the virus. It has to be killed on spot. So patient becomes infected, bites other patients and spreads the disease.
A zombie apocalypse could hit us in so many ways that have nothing to do with zombies themselves. Transportation trucks, planes, and ships halt. Power grid goes down. Infrastructure falls. The few bands of survivors could turn on each other. On top of that you have the zombie horde- an enemy that doesn't run out of resources, continues to multiply, and won't surrender until it achieves total annihilation. Its the ultimate siege

You watch too many movies, we would deal with it in a matter of months maybe years if the zombies are lucky. This isnt aids or the flu, the infected are easy to spot, few people would care if we rounded up and killed everyone infected(the full out zombie ones) and it actually could threaten our survival ( if not dealt with properly) and do think modern medicine is full of the retarded? every precaution would be taken with a virus like that.

I was only speculating what could happen. I never said its 100% likely. No the infected aren't always easy to see. The level of decay depends on how long you've been infected. Someone bitten recently will look like any other guy/girl from a distance.
I don't think you'd be casually saying "Few will care if we round up and killed the infected" if one of them happened to be your friend/family member.
Anyway I'm not posting in this topic anymore because I see a heated argument underway. If you disagree fine. We're all just speculating here. No need to get angered.

Well, the most probable "zombie" scenario would be a neurological problem, not an actual undead situation. Such a state could be achieved with a malfunctioning brain. Severe seizures, brain infections and psychoactive drugs are all known to cause violent behavior. The most zombie like state would be if the victim's cerebral cortex wasn't functioning. That'd just leave the brainstem and spinal cord. Only the most primal instincts would remain. There are some brain parasites which will mind control hosts to reproduce, but none of them have adapted to humans. Toxoplasmosis is one such parasite, it will cause rats to follow cats around so that they'll get eaten. It spawns in the cats' guts. Half the human population are Toxoplasmosis carriers. A less likely(imo) but still possible scenario would be true walking dead. Nerves can function for weeks after death(in fact some nerves in the eye never need bloodflow). Necrotic muscles only limit mobility and will still function. Small amounts of brain activity has been measured in recently dead patients. Walking is actually a function of the spinal cord. So a zombie-like state is possible. It just has never happened to humans(headless chickens can walk, frogs can live normally with their brains removed). If zombies actually have to bite to infect, yeah there's no way that's gonna cause an apocalypse.

Problem is, doctors don't know they can't treat the virus. It has to be killed on spot. So patient becomes infected, bites other patients and spreads the disease. That's still only limited to the hospital. Even 100 or so zombies could be wiped out with a small squad of armed living humans before they cause any more damage, being the slow and stupid beasts they are. Once again, you can't get any of that without proper footing. A building needs a foundation first. I don't know why people think a zombie horde would mean destruction for Earth if we have so many people and we have so many guns laying around in our households. After all, people can destroy any other species of animals within a matter of years if they set their mind to it - and that's the ones that hide and don't stupidly stumble towards your M16.

Someone bitten recently will look like any other guy/girl from a distance. To bite, you need to be within a few inches of that person, so it doesn't matter if zombies look like any other object from a distance. Well if they're dead already (zombies) then technically they are no longer protected under the law...excuse me if that makes me sound like an @$$hole. As for the ones living, if someone doesn't shoot them, they'll probably do it themselves. I doubt anyone wants to turn into a zombie. If you wish to stop the discussion though that's fine.

Humans and animals can be demoralized through wounding and fear. Zombies can't. They don't feel pain or fear. And it's not just the zombies themselves. In an apocalyptic landscape, disease, starvation, maurading bands, even your own family can be just as dangerous. Your children might turn on you to save himself for instance.
That's the most terrifying thing about an apocalypse. It can hit us hard in so many ways that have nothing to do with the disaster itself.
