I think it could be a good idea but im really on the fence. As for the komodo vs dingo thing, Ora already contend with feral dogs on the islands, They not only dominate them, they prey on them.

What are your thoughts on it?

What are your thoughts on it? I think nothing would change that much. Komodo Dragons would likely be able to survive since they could prey on Feral Camels, Kangaroos, and other prey in the Outbacks.

This would also technically be a reintroduction as australia is the species birthplace. My theory for why they went extinct in australia is a combonation of competitors Megalania was a superior big game hunter and the perentie and lace monitor were better small game hunters, leaving no effective niche for the komodo eventually out competed on the mainland only the islanders survived.

I don't know much about reptiles but there's no reason why they can't survive in australia now.
Not too many predators large enough to compete with this lizard.

Has anyone considered a potential size change? A reverse of Island dwarfism/giantism perhaps..

I suppose its possible but Those niches are already filled and there is more than enough large prey, infact the Komodos would be the only land predator in the country that could prey on adult feral camels.

I don't know much about reptiles but is there any reason komodo dragons can't survive in australia? I can't think of one.
For one thing, the environment isn't dominated by large mammalian predators.

The dingo is a large mammalian predator and is the dominate predator but its no match for an adult dragon, Hell they dont even screw with large perenties at least not without some backup.

Back up is definitely the highlight of being a canine.

I was thinking more along the lines of hyenas, AWDs, lions, leopards, and the like. But Australia's largest mammal predator is a dingo which is no match to a komodo dragon. Only a pack of dingos (however many needed) would be outright dominant over this reptile. For mammals that is.
