Meet the world's first white jaguar cubs born in captivityA German zoo is celebrating after the birth of two rare white jaguar cubs. The fluffy white pair were born at Aschersleben Zoo on 19 January and have recently ventured out into the world for the first time. Still unnamed, the brothers were born to 17-year-old father Mescal, who has a typical spotty coat, and 13-year-old mother Polly, who is jet black. Zoo official Dieter Reisky said has never heard of a white jaguar being born at any other zoo in the world. The youngsters are currently white with pale grey markings, however, it is not known how or if their colour will change as they continue to grow. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Its habitat range extends from Southern United States and Mexico across much of Central America and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina. travel.aol.co.uk/2012/03/09/meet-the-worlds-first-jaguar-cubs-born-in-captivity-at-zoo-in-germany/Look a bit like snow leopards....really interesting though i hope that this mutation doesn't become a fad like it has with white tigers and white lions!

Apparently both white fur and blue eyes are recessive.

Thats 3 out of 4 extant pantherine species that can carry this gene, so it stands to reason that all of them can.

Its status as a pantherine is commonly debated but it is very possible that the gene is common but unrecogonized due to the snow leopards white coat, The only way to tell them apart could be the color of there eyes.
