if a cape buffalo's horns can penetrate a crocodile's hide, a gaur's horns can also pierce through a megalania's scales which aren't as armored as a crocodile.

no but some of you people are talking as if megalania will easily kill this bovid and that the bovid's offenses won't hurt megalania very much.

This is some big bad beef but this varanid's bite would have been absolutely devastating, Im not saying megalania is going to come out on top every time with ease but I am saying that more often than not it will kill the guar.

the maximum weight estimate of a gaur is similar to the maximum weight estimate for megalania.

Komodo dragons appear to have no trouble overpowering, and killing dear outright, and the deer is often larger than they are. In this case the lizard may actually outweigh the Guar, which makes this bovine easy pickings. In the video Anomonyous posted, you can see how durable the dragon is, taking several kicks from a deer with no signs of slowing down its attack. A Megalania would probably kill the Guar the same way the komodo killed the deer, a crippling bite would sever the achilles tendon, and the mammal will be incapable of escape. No a megalania isn't heavier than the gaur. And a gaur will definitely not be easy pickings. I mean tigers have been gored by gaurs. So I don't think a slower megalania is fast enough to dodge a charging gaur.

These matches are based on situations where we assume neither contender may flee for unspecified reasons. 90% of these conflicts would result in one or the other opponents fleeing...pretty boring lol. Often mutual deterrence or a party fleeing will be acknowledged. A party fleeing is what would be required for a dragon to kill an elephant. Long term effects of envenomation and hemorrhaging could ultimately lead to success. However in head on conflict even far deadlier venomous contenders must bow to the mighty elephant who could crush the competition regardless to a painful death that may follow. The dragon could rip the Elephant's skin and climb to it's back, ripping the back.

Komodo Dragons are known to kill pygmy Elephants and Crocodiles. The Elephant I'm talking about are asian ones, not the African ones. The dragon could kill the African one, but it would take a month or two. Ive never heard of them killing crocs and the elephants they preyed on were roughly the same size as water buffalo. The Elephants are the same size of a Rhino, and Dragons could kill Crocodiles.

you must be joking. you can't seriously believe a komodo dragon can kill an elephant, rhino, or hippo.

what? Face to face, a rhino or hippo would totally destroy a komodo dragon or any other modern individual carnivore without much effort.

Lol, the Rhino has thick skin, but the dragon would strike fear and the Rhino is defenceless, Anyway if its one on one the dragon would dodge the rhino's attack and disembowel it's legs with a tail slash and a bite, 2-3 days later the Rhino is fresh meat for the dragon. Same as Hippo.

Is there reason to believe the dragons venom would be potent enough to take out an animal in that weight range. Were talking a few tons of body mass to absorb the applied venom.
