If the snake coils the ape's chest or neck he will win. If it only coils the ape's arm, the ape can pull, pound, tear, and bite the snake or slam it against a hard surface to jar it loose. Big retic pythons can be over 90 kilograms, Thats alot of weight to pick up and slam, particularly because the snake is going to be squeezing the ape's arm, causing pain and making it nearly impossible for the ape to bend its arm, forcing the ape to do almost all the lifting with its other arm. If the ape did not succeed in loosening the snakes grip by slamming it the ape would soon be exhausted and unable to fight back.

Although there are many good points brought up on both sides of this debate, I believe the snake has the upper hand and will will almost every time. Additionally, the original poster gave way more information on the orangutan than the python, which seems a littlw unfair. it should be known that the reticulated python is an extremely durable snake and has been known to survive various animal bites and even machete strikes from attacked citizens. Lets say they're both at their average size, or, adult, to make it fair. Anyhow, the intelligence of the Orangutan is only going to make it want to stay as far away from the snake as possible. It's not like it's human intelligence, and even then most of us would be doing the same thing and running.
The speed and strength at which the python stikes can easily stun the orangutan and entrap it. Despite the strength and dexterity of the orangutan, the snakes could will likely be inescapable, mainly because even of the ape is that powerful, maybe to toss the snake, it likely will never be able to get the advantage to do so while its under attack.
In the end I have to give it to the Snake 9/10 times. In the wild, orangutans fear reticulated pythons for a reason.

This is a stupid match-up. Snake wins easily, what is the orangutan going to do? And the python can easily constrict the orangutan. There is really nothing the orangutan can do, as strong as orangutans are.

@grid's post in the last page.
ummm... so one python surviving a tiger bite to the head doesn't change the fact countless others would be crippled and die from such an injury. The case was likely a fluke.
It's a little pointless to have a topic where everyone bunches up to praise one animal and bash the other no offense.

that said I'm not too certain who would win.

It's common knowledge (in zoology) that reptiles can survive massive injuries, I was merely bringing up a case where the python demonstrated its durability. Tell me how this ape is gonna take down a snake this size.

I believe there was a case where a snake was stabbed multiple times and the man it was attacking still needed the help of two other men to stop it from killing him.

There's no way orangutans can beat retics (Size and power) Even if orangutan Carries a gun and a sword.,

I was saying that the case you mentioned earlier is likely a freak incident and 90 some percent of the time a python would die if a tiger bit off its head. As for killing the snake, the orangutan can bludgeon/bite the snake's head. It's possible if very unlikely. If the two animals were in conflict for a long period of time, it's possible that the ape can come up with a means with which to counter the snake.

The case earlier is not a freak occurrence, considering that countless other cases of snakes surviving even more gruesome injuries. Look at the account where the snake was nearly decapitated, yet survived. www.humanesociety.org/assets/pdfs/wildlife/captive/constrictor-snake-attacks.pdfHow exactly will the ape do such a thing? Bludgeoning won't work against a snake this size, biting would be more effective, but I doubt the primate would have any instinctual knowledge to attack a vulnerable spot, and it's only a matter of time before it suffocates/dies of cardiac arrest, and as I mentioned before, the snake would almost certainly be able to survive repeated injuries long enough to kill the primate.

I think the reticulated python would eat the orangutan
