Huge mismatch. Bison destroys the bear easily. Even a wolf pack has a hard time killing a weak bison so a slower, less experienced bear has no chance. I think the wolves that have troubles with a weak bison have a rather small pack. A small wolf pack IS NOT comparable to a kodiak bear AT ALL. A small pack of wolves had troubles with a weakened bison because the bison was still strong and could have easily destroyed one or more of the wolves. Also, a small pack of wolves will also have a lot of trouble with a kodiak bear. As for this fight, I say Kodiak Bear. But it won't be easy. Kodiak Bear 60/40. A monster male 1,270 kg bison would win though. A wolf is much faster and has more experience with large herbivores than a brown bear does. A pack of wolves would fare much better than a single bear. Kodiak bears don't even encounter bison so how would it know how to kill one? If they met, I think the bear would not even go near the bison most of the time.

Historically, grizzly bears have killed bison; and bison has killed grizzly bears. 50-50 for a large healthy mature male grizzly. For a Kodiak: he would have a higher percentage rate of victory over the bison. However, if a grizzly hunts bison, he will be seeking calves, sick, lame, or the very old. A fight with a healthy bull bison will certainly be started by the bull bovine - finished by the Kodiak.

An extremely large male grizzly bear could potentially kill a bison cow. But a relatively healthy bison bull is too much for even a kodiak bear.

Historically, before the American west was invaded by droves of settlers, there were an estimated 100 million bison and 100 thousand grizzlies. Those bears fed heavily on bison and feral cattle. Some of those bears had become accomplished bison-killers. grizzly.yuku.com/forums/66#.VA17X010zIU

Largest Kodiak bear was tracked by Alaska Fish and Game back in the 80's. It stood up on hind legs and scratched a tree. Estimated reach was 22ft. Estimated weight over 2000lbs. Another odity was a man called The Wildman of Kodiak. From Sweden he stood 6'8". He would strip down to a loincloth and hunt Kodiak bears with an 8' iron spear and get them. He has refused all interviews.
