In my opinion a battle between a similarly sized tiger and lion could go either way. But I give a slight edge to the tiger. Tiger 51/100 It's anything but 50/50 from what I've seen. The tiger always beat the lion when they fought according to accounts. Male lion vs Tigress could go either way though. But a male tiger would overwhelm the male lion. BTW, I'd also like to add that male tigers have to secure their mating rights within their territory much like how a male lion has to secure his mating rights within his pride. Difference being tigers have to do it alone whereas male lion has backup. So consequently the tiger has to be more aggressive and have superior fighting and hunting skills than a lion.

^really man? A male lion would reck a tigress You'd be surprised. I can name a handful of staged fights where tigresses held their own and even severely wounded male lions larger than themselves. Then there's the famous Everland fights (which I cannot post due to Animal Cruelty rules of the Board) And Boldchamp posts here? I heard from various people that the guy is a well-known tiger hater/basher.

Actually thylacoleo was right the first time.
I can cite many cases of mature male tigers killing mature male lions.
But close to no cases of mature male lions killing mature male tigers in fair fights.
I'd say male lion vs tigress is a pretty even fight. Lion has size and strength. Tigress has speed, reflexes, and agility advantage.

Sword: I will look at the link you provided tomorrow. Looks informative Boldchamp is primarily and excellent researcher and poster imho. He has a lot of passion in some fields but I like him. He's a knowledgeable poster who knows much about lions, that's for sure. He's also a friendly, polite poster (if biased for the lion) who can be civil in a debate from what I've seen of him.
The people who accused him of being tiger haters were mostly tiger fans from the AVA Yuku forums. But the tiger fans themselves heavily participated in lion-bashing
As for this matchup, I've changed my stance. I think both animals can kill each other given the circumstances but the tiger has the edge because of his solitary lifestyle which requires him to be more active and competitive.
At maximum sizes, it's no contest. A lion stands no chance against Siberian or Kaziranga park tigers.
