Underrated In no order....hyenas (spotted, brown and striped), many of the 'higher' canids (including coyotes and jackals), cougars and monitors.
Overrated Some of the mustelids (*cough honey badger cough*), tigers, lions (sometimes), leopard (i say this even though i'm a leopard enthusiast).

I assume this is a top three
Overrated- Pathera(still one of my favourite genera), mustilids (I agree about the ratel) and Extinct animals (Generally, not all of them are) lets face it we let are imaginations get the better of us with alot of these guys
Underrated-Hyenas (I think the spotted hyena gets its due more than the others), The cheetah and monitor lizards (not so much here in fact sometimes they get too much credit here, like the croc monitor vs clouded leopard thread)

Agree about the cheetah to an extent...the cougar has similar combative/killing capabilities as the leopard and has some pretty impressive feats of such on its account,,, but i've seen many underrate it - assuming the leopard is leagues ahead of it simply because it is part of the "small cats" clan and leopards being pantherines.
Cougars have been overrated though in matchups regarding them vs wolves and gladiatorial dogs such as the dogo..

Most Overrated Animals: 1. Tyrannosaurus Rex - Because many T-Rex fanboys think it is the biggest killer that can kill anything and thinks nothing can beat it. 2. Liopleurodon: Because of BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs. Many to this day still believes Liopleurodon is a 75 foot long Pliosaur and 150 tons, when in real life it was only really 23 feet long and 2.2 tons. 3. Tiger: Lot's believes that it could kill any size Brown Bear even large males. Though they don't realize we do not have proof that Tigers have killed large male Brown Bears. Also because many Tiger Fanboys thinks it could beat the Lion, when I think it would be 50/50.
Most Underrated Animals: 1. Gorilla - I feel people underestimates them. Gorillas are pretty strong and I think they are very good at fighting back against other animals. 2. Spinosaurus - After lot of thinking about Spinosaurus. I have to agree it is very underrated. Probably because of those T-Rex Fanboys who got really angry about the fight between it and T-Rex in Jurassic Park 3. 3. Wolf - Why I think they are underrated is because some think that a Wolf would lose to other animals due to lacking the ability to grapple, but I feel the Wolf is still a very strong animal and it doesn't need a grappling ability to win.

Underrated? Great hammerheads. Ugh. Snakes often too.

I heard something about a domestic goat killing a leopard in Pakistan (or India?)...don't know anything about the condition of the cat though.

Dinosaurs are pretty evenly over and underrated, because they have so little modern analogues. I used to think that a T. rex could kill a Songhua River Mammoth, and DinoMike says a T. rex is no match for an average elephant. Two ends of the spectrum. Most Overrated Animals: 1. Tyrannosaurus Rex - Because many T-Rex fanboys think it is the biggest killer that can kill anything and thinks nothing can beat it. What? Why? Nobody's claiming it's the biggest. It can kill pretty much any modern terrestrial animal. It's hard to overrate Tyrannosaurus... I suppose if you claim that it could kill large sauropods(or the Songhua River Mammoth, as I said), maybe. But nobody's doing that. Carcharodontosaurs and especially Dromaeosaurs are much more overrated.

How can't that be overrated?

Well, I don't know much about the mammoth match, but weight isn't what wins dinosaur fights. In fact, if you ask me, those studies are irrelevant to vs matches involving large theropods. The only way it would matter is if said theropod was light enough to trip after stepping on a pebble or something. Basically, if it doesn't float away, what does it matter?

I find humans and apes to be grossly underrated by many. If anything its we humans and primates with our brain, opposable thumbs, and tool use that makes us far more versatile. What can hands & brains do? Eye-gouging? Grabbing and twisting/breaking your opponent's limbs? Strangling? Weapon improvisation? Can a non-dexterous cat/bear begin to account for any of those things?
If intelligence is such a useless disadvantages we humans would be the most pathetic species on earth. Because then Fathers would chicken out instead of taking on the threat full force to protect their families. Predators would then find humans and apes easier targets and hunt us to extinction. But that isn't the case.
Humans, pathetic low-end specimens even, have escaped all kinds of extreme situations. This guy in Mexico was shot 9 times by an execution squad & STILL retained his faculties to escape. And what about that account where a crocodile took 1 hour to kill a tiny 40lb baboon?
Rumors that apes are weak fighters abound after some idiot makes an unsubstantiated claim and a mob that doesn't think for itself forms. This one guy on CF even claimed a chimpanzee will lose to a Eurasian Lynx.
But basic facts and thinking completely contradicts the dim view of apes. In all truthfulness I really don't see much reason to favor carnivores over humans and apes more often than not

I wouldnt say apes are weak fighters but they are bad killers and most of the fights we do are to the death.
