Utahraptor was a much more stocky, bulky animal than people originally thought. Here's a link to Scott Hartman's new, revised Utahraptor silhouette. skeletaldrawing.tumblr.com/post/80334261998/prehistoric-birds-silhouette-of-theIt looks more built like a multi-ton theropod than a smaller dromaeosaurid. Utahraptor was not a particularly agile or cursorial animal. It had short, stocky, powerful hindlimbs made for bringing down large prey like Smilodon here, meaning this thing was basically a dinosaurian sabertooth. It's build seems to further support this idea. The dromaeosaurid also had sharp digit II claw tips (which were analogous to a machairodontine's enlarged maxillary canines) so that they were effective for slashing, not just stabbing. carnivoraforum.com/single/?p=8589560&t=9358689So we have here two heavily built animals that killed in the same way as each other, but one being heavier by a significant margin. Utahraptor wins 80% of the time.
