Honey Badgers are larger than any Varanid that they encounter so it is no surprise that they can over power them. Komodo dragon prey on more than just ungulates, feral dogs are also on the menu so carnivorans do share territory with Ora and they are supressed and preyed on. An eldery woman was attack by a six foot long Ora and she lost the use of her hand because of it, one bite and the lizard was a mere six feet long. I dont think you understand the kind of rapid bloodloss, muscle damage, nerve damage and tendon damage Megalanias bite would cause and given that Varanids are venomous (many lizards are infact) one relatively small bite could take a large amount of the fight from the mamnal very quickly and yes Ora venom is fast acting. The honey badger didnt look bigger then the monitor but maybe it was heavier. And even a really old woman was able to fight back and deter the dragon when she was badly bitten. Yes she ended up with a severe injury but didnt just drop dead. Most animals that attack via blood loss will take their time for prey to weaken. On a side note I did find a recent article about komodo dragon venom, which says it may not be as deadly as once thought. Whats your opinion on it? www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2350561/The-toxic-bites-Komodo-dragons-deadly-thought.html

Honey badgers are bigger than any African monitor, that's just a fact, appearances can be deceiving. The Komodo that attacked her was only six feet long including its tail and given its brazen attack on a human despite its small size likely starving, it was much smaller than her and likely in bad shape itself it not that surprising that she was able to fend it off and she was transported to a hospital so her surviving isn't shocking either, the point was a smaller animal was able to cause irreversible damage with a single bite.
As for the Ora Venom Thing I'm not surprised, its main purpose is to augment the effects of the Ora's bite not be learhal by itself (in my opinion at least). The aids in inducing shock quickly, making the prey more vulnerable to further assaults. That's my view

I changed my opinion on this; I now think varanids stand good chances against mammalian carnivores at alike sizes.
