Jaguar stands no chance. Boars are known to kill Tigers. If they can do that. Then it will have no trouble with the Jaguar.

Predator instinct and adaptations are incredibly overstated in interspecific conflict. Not Being a predator doesn't automatically compromise an animal's aggression and fighting ability.
Like all predators, it's opportunistic and will only go for weak, sick, and injured. Boars are no exception. A big cat would avoid attacking a strong healthy boar ready to fight. The jaguar is fighting for food. The boar is fighting for its life. If the jaguar gets hurt, it could get infected and impair his ability to hunt and fight. It's the jaguar that has a lot more to lose in this fight.
Besides, big cats often lose fights to animals less formidable than boars.
Big Cats also have a very hard time outmaneuvering the business end of the boar from videos I've seen.

It normally depends on the kind of Wild Boar, this is a really good match. But gun to my head- I would go with the Wild Boar. Pain tolerance, stamina and the fact that it can stand up to Tigers (although it is rare). Though I would give the Jaguar a good chance against an American boar. But boars are very powerful though and against a huge Russian Boar, the Jaguar doesn't stand a chance. The jaguar could win if it got hold of the boar and managed to get a skull bite, but mostly, I see the Jaguar being gored and boars are surprisingly fast and agile and even if the jaguar did grab on the boar, the boar could easily shake the Jaguar off. And this is coming from a feline fan.

I have got to admit, I think the Jaguar should take this at parity. And "no chance" is an exaggeration, isn't it? The only time I see the Jaguar standing no chance is when the boar becomes a huge Russian Boar. Oh and Wild Boars rarely kill tigers. Mostly a wild boar would become food to a tiger.

This could be compared to leopard vs warthog. interactions between the two could be beneficial to this thread. Yes. It's similar. Erm. Not exactly. Warthogs are more athletic and more of the running type. Wild Boars are absolute powerhouses which can rely on their size and better weaponry to attack.

Wild boar: Warthog: I am not, by any means, insinuating that wild boars do not have deadly tusks. But they just seem less adapted for battle than warthogs

I gave the jaguar a pity vote. Pretty interesting that no one voted for the jaguar while the boar has 7 votes. This is a good match up. At close weights I think it can go either way. Not sure how the jaguar deals with extremely tough ungulates of similar or equal sizes. I mean even smaller peccaries can give them problems though thats rare. There isnt a lot of large mammals in their range and I never seen much on predation on tapir, who still wouldnt be as tough as a similar-sized boar. If it utilizes a skull bite with mammals it can have difficulty subduing the powerful hog and could get gored by the tusks once so close to the head, but it is also a very powerful cat for its size and still has the agility advantage, plus a skull bite could end the hog quick if it manages to pull it off, unlike a throat or nape bite which would take a long time due to the hogs thick neck. The best best is for it to get on the pigs back. At close weights I might give it to the jaguar, but really not sure. The larger boars should win though especially if the jag doesnt ambush the back. Those hogs can give tigers problems.

I see you voted jaguar. Well to start off, getting on the boar's back is very hard because it has not really met something more formidable than a boar (well msybe except for a tapir). I see the jaguar trying to get onto the boar's back, but then getting shaken off pretty quickly. Then finishing it off with it's formidable tusks. And yes while a jaguar might be going for a skull bite, remember that this is a face to face fight, not an ambush, meaning that the jaguar will have troubles trying to get to the boar's skull because before it will be able to do that, it will be gored. The jaguar also has only a slight size advantage over the boar (just saying) and that means that the boar is capable of killing the jaguar because of the close weights. The boar is just too powerful, too durable, too quick on it's feet, and is armed with better weaponry. Nothing in similar size to it that doesn't have the weaponry to kill the boar is gonna kill it. Boar wins 8/10.

I dont think the jaguar would get annihilated by a boar which is why I voted that way, and I actually do think it would win at very close weights, or its 50/50 because I am a little unconfident in the fact that I dont know how jags deal with large formidable mammalian prey. Reread my above comment and you would see that reason. I'm using a similarly sized boar in order to give the jag a good chance. Yes boars are formidable but a big cat is still a top predator, it can certainly handle that. If the jaguar gets onto the back it can sink its claws in and use its powerful build to keep the boar down. At similar sizes the inflexible boar would have a difficult time shaking it off. Pigs dont have good stamina, so if it cant shake off the jaguar initially it could be in trouble. As for the skull bite, I already mentioned in my above post that I'm not sure how effective it would be here, but still its possible can be done and that would lead to a quick kill. Also big cats are smart and versatile killers so perhaps it will use a different method of killing. I dont know if they use skull bites on tapir so that information can be important here. A boar is no doubt capable of killing a jaguar but the cat is more then capable of killing the pig as well, especially with predatory instinct on its side. It is still quicker and a combination of retractable claws and powerful jaws and teeth are better weaponry then boar tusks. Boars are extremely durable and also aggressive, and that is a very key advantage for it, but big cats can take down similarly sized pigs. Luckily for the jaguar it has the weaponry to kill the pig. I respect boars and think they are tremendous fighters but saying that a jaguar cant kill an equal-sized one is pretty ridiculous. Now if you are using those big boars 350+ lbs boars then ok, I agree the pig would dominate the average jaguar 8/10 or more times.

1. I know that, but I saw that you gave a slight edge to the jaguar and I was stating my opinion.
2. Boars are inflexible but they are quick on their feet and are powerful. Like I said, it is capable of shaking the jag off with it's power and speed.
3. I didn't say the boar was quicker didn't I. I just said that it was pretty quick not that it was quicker than the jaguar. And the boar's tusks alone would be sharper and would inflict bigger wounds than the jag's claws or bite. Big cats take down similarly sized pigs with a LOT of trouble. Even lionesses and leopards have troubles with warthogs and boars are known to kill tigers and give even bears trouble.
4. I didn't say it can't kill it. But I just said that it would be much more powerful and nothing similar in size that has the weaponry to kill the boar is gonna kill it. The jag definitely has the weaponry to kill the jag, but yet again I see the boar winning.
