Got ya! Should have known better than to assume condescension, cold blood for life bro. so i take it that you favor the gorilla? I mean it's much larger and stronger than this bear.

Well that particular quote was for VD.
I do favor the ape slightly at average weights, however at max weights I give the bear an edge.

at maximum sizes, the gorilla is still much heavier than this bear.
I am aware this offends some people but I actually would favor a gorilla over a bear if they were similar in size. Gorillas just strike as more versatile fighters.
That's just me though. A lot of people might think I'm stupid for saying this but oh well.

Certainly not stupid, the opening post suggest the bears maxes at 419 the ape at 353. These are the numbers I'm working with, a much larger bear by nearly 70 lbs.

The sloth bear's claws look like blunt sticks from the pictures I've seen. At least compared to those of other bears and felines.
That and its thick, shaggy coat offering protection is the only thing I can think of in favor of this bear.
The gorilla outclasses it everywhere else.
You're gonna need a bigger, more impressive bear species to defeat a gorilla in my opinion.

they aren't subspecies, they are different species of bear, (though one could argue that ursus maritimus is a subspecies of ursus arctos.)

American black bears get pretty big bro... I agree. The larger black bear subspecies would also defeat a gorilla. But on average black bears are similar in weight to that of a gorilla. I'd favor a gorilla over a bear though if they were of similar weight though. The gorilla has an arguably more powerful upperbody relative to size in my opinion. I'll explain more when I get the chance.
