Komodos appear to have less rules when it comes to combat. I wonder if this is because there ritualized combat is more primative or if it is because as the top predator of there enviroment they can afford to have some injuries.

FACEPALM* Rule one of feeding monitors, make sure the lizard does not associate your hand with food. If you do make sure it knows that your hand supplies food but isnt food itself.

Monitors are known for causing nerve damage and croc monitors are the worst for it.

I am starting to notice that komodos seem to have two main targets when attacking buffalo, the rear legs and the face. when you think about it the face makes sense, with the horns the buffalo has they cant really hit the dragon while its lached onto the face.

I never knew komodo dragons could run quickly. Perhaps we need to rethink some common principles regarding the mobility of monitor lizards. They aren't as sluggish as they look.
The deer collapsing was probably the result of a severed Achilles tendon. Komodo dragons will attempt to cut it in larger prey. Once the prey is defenseless, it's easy feeding.
Ultimategrid was bitten by a young crocodile monitor, he says it's the most painful experience he's ever had. The monitor wasn't biting at full force either. There's also the story of a crocodile monitor and a dog, which you may have heard.

This is a crocodile monitor's skull when viewed from above. Anyone else find the resemblance to a tyrannosaurus skull a bit uncanny?
