Many performance bred ABs have sufficient snout length and breathing space. what i meant by "working type" i don't like the show-bred ones.

I've gained an even greater appreciation than i had before, for mixed breed dogs since reading Gun's debates.

One of the most loyal ,powerful, courageous dogs i have ever had the privileged of meeting let alone owning was a mixed breed, Well, i've grown up with mostly purebreds, though one was a mutt (a mix of spaniel and other things)...sweet natured little guy but a crappy guard dog - he would run and hide if someone broke into the house lol. about the only thing he would protect is a bone. about the best dog i had was a purebred shetland sheepdog that came from a backyard breeder...looked like a mini lassie. he was sooo loyal, smart, obedient, protective and loving,, he would go anywhere with me and follow me to ends of the earth. i was the center of his whole world! he didn't like strangers too much though. shelties are tops on my faves list, also are border collies.

I also like border collies. My old rottie bullmastiff cross(i had to give him away ) was a great dog never backed down from anything in his life (aside from from our neighbors dogs blacklabXpitbull who used to pick on him when he was a puppy). he actually stands there and barks at thunder, you can hear the nervousness in his bark but he stands his ground against something that makes most dogs shit there none existent pants. He attacked a young black bear that broke into are shed (freezer full of meat) it never came back, He treed at least one cougar every year and fought one too. We lived in a rural area with a couple houses around (like a micro community). He still makes rounds making sure everything is alright and still makes time to beat up/play with the new pitbull. she has probably has extended his life keeping him more active. then there was the coyotes oh those poor coyotes.

What an awesome dog, sounds like he inherited the best qualities from both breeds. sucks that you couldn't keep him...

Think that both sides are known to independent-minded/hard headed, but bullmastiffs especially so.
