Snow leopards are smaller than the other big cats but, like them, exhibit a range of sizes, generally weighing between 27 and 55 kg (60 and 120 lb), with an occasional large male reaching 75 kg (170 lb) and small female of under 25 kg (55 lb). Body length ranges from 75 to 130 centimeters (30 to 50 in), with the tail adding a further 80 to 100 cm (31 to 39 in) to that length. These cats stand about 60 cm (24 in) at the shoulder. vs The striped hyena has a fairly massive, but short torso set on long legs. The hind legs are significantly shorter than the forelimbs, thus causing the back to slope downwards. The legs are relatively thin and weak, with the forelegs being bent at the carpal region. The neck is thick, long and largely immobile, while the head is heavy and massive with a shortened facial region. The eyes are small, while the sharply pointed ears are very large, broad and set high on the head. Like all hyenas, the striped hyena has bulky pads on its paws, as well as blunt but powerful claws. The tail is short and the terminal hairs do not descend below the calcaneal tendon. Unlike the genitalia of the spotted hyena, the female reproductive organs of the striped hyena are normal. The female has 3 pairs of teats. Adult weight can range from 22 to 55 kg (49 to 120 lb), averaging at about 35 kg (77 lb). Body length can range from 85 to 130 cm (33 to 51 in), not counting a tail of 25 to 40 cm (9.8 to 16 in), and shoulder height is between 60–80 cm (24–31 in).

A large male snow leopard could handle a hyena, more often than not though the hyenas aggressive disposition would lead to it dominating the shy, weary and reclusive cat.

^ mostly agree. I think more often than not the hyenas agressive behavior would dominate the cat into flight. In an actual fight the cat may have a slight advantage with its claws and solo tactics.

Ultimately, the snow leopard is larger than the striped hyena. The snow leopard is quite agile and has sharp, grappling claws. Its main weakness is in its build. While it appears fairly robust like its close relatives, most of the bulk is really fur and a shaved snow leopard looks no more impressive than a shaved wolf. While the hyena is smaller and cannot grapple its opponents, its extremely deadly bite and aggressive behavior will allow the hyena to dominate the snow leopard more often than not.
And for God's sakes add a poll already!

Maybe i'm underestimating the snow leopard...but it is probably in a somewhat lower league as far as strength, aggressiveness and combativeness goes, than the true leopard...including at parity. true leopards are often known to give way to striped hyenas on 1 on 1 encounters.. plus i suspect that the striped and brown hyenas share the physical durability of their spotted cousin.

Perhaps a Zanzibar Leopard or a Florida Panther would be more "similar sized"

I'm going with the Hyena here. They are pretty even in weight but the Hyena possesses more formidable jaws than the Snow Leopard.

I'll favor the hyena based on everyone said.

I'm not really sure about this one, but if I had to chose, my vote goes to the hyena. These animals are nasty bastards and a bite can cripple the Snow Leopard. They are quite equal in weight, but the aggressor is the hyena, I have heard these hyenas have killed Kangals and it also has the advantage on pain tolerance as well. And it also has more formidable jaws than the Snow Leopard.
